Recommendations, DVDs, books, posters.

The following recommended films and books are from, and about, a time when Hollywood was young and movies were magic. I've selected each film and book for its overall quality and for its entertainment value. Each and every one of them would make a perfect gift for a friend, a loved one or, perhaps, even yourself.

(In keeping with the focus of this web site, each selected film was released between the years 1893 and 1960, or is set during that period in motion picture history.)

Released in 1957 by
Columbia Pictures Corporation

The 2007 remake of "3:10 to Yuma" has been both a critical and a box–office success. If you enjoyed watching Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) pit his wits against the ideals of Dan Evans (played by Christian Bale), you may want to invest in seeing the original version of the movie.

Filmed on location in Arizona, the 1957 movie features beautiful black and white photography and a villainous performance by Glenn Ford. Now regarded as one of the best westerns released during the 1950s, its story is reminiscent of another movie made just a few years earlier, Stanley Kramer's classic "High Noon" starring Gary Cooper.

A beautifully remastered print of the 1957 "3:10 to Yuma" is now available on DVD. For more information click on the picture of the DVD at the right.
